Take care of the pence …
Any idea what this building serves as?
Well it is a psychiatric hospital and surprise, surprise, … a water tower. The Sint-Kamillus hospital dates from 1932. The Brothers of Charity bought the domain Krijkelberghof from the Belgian State for 1.5 million Belgian francs (approx. 37 000 €) back in 1928. The construction works started in 1931 in a typical Brabant neo renaissance style. One opted for comfort and safety: all the buildings would be completely fire-free, there was central heating and hot water, a laundry, etc. which is remarkable for that time. The whole site was conceived to be self supporting: a build on farm provided vegetables, fruit and meat for the patients. The imposing tower you see on the photo acted as the main water tower.
Why am I telling you this? The funny thing is that I drive past it every day and I discovered all this via the Code Camille cache GC1H12H. I decided to pick it up whilst returning home. This is the proof that even ‘simple’ cache can have much added value.

Cool looking place. I drove past a cache everyday for a year… Same deal. Finally stopped and got it.

That’s – to me – the spirit of geacaching: discovering places you wouldn’t normally know about

Caches in areas like that are always cool to find, if not just because of the interesting surroundings.
