The school holiday is nearly to an end and I survived it. I went last Thursday with the kids to a book fair. It’s an annual event where one can buy slightly damaged of overstock books at a bargain.
Today started a week holiday. The kids have no school the following week and I ‘volunteered’ to entertain them. That means that not a lot of gecaching will happen. Not that they don’t like it, but I needs to be short without a lot of hiking and in good weather conditions. Maybe I can persuade them to tackle a small multi with a cinema visit as reward.
It’s official: a Palm Z22 sucks when it comes to complete paperless caching. It’s ok for what cachemate covers, but when it comes to paperless spoilers, it’s pretty useless. I was doing the “De andere Bron” GCK1HD multicache and everything went smoothly on this nice walk. That was until it was time to discover the stash itself. I had a bit of deviation in the wood and thus I needed to rely on the spoiler. As you can see below, there a lot of trees on the picture. Read more…
This continuation of freezing temperatures and snow is not my cup of tea. The temperatures didn’t exceed freezing point for more than 15 days now. Maybe I wasn’t that weather conscious before, but I can’t remember that it has been so cold for quite a long time now. It’s about time that this comes to an end and more reasonable temperatures are in place.
Today is the last day of the year. A remarkable year with the last 4 months – although it started for real in October – into geocaching with 62 finds. It wasn’t always easy or pleasant. My inexperience, the weather and a couple of accidents casted sometimes a shadow over the geocaching party. I still like it though and I have even tangible plans for 2 additional caches of my own. Yesterday I dropped my kids at a birthday party nearby a cache. Needless to say that there isn’t a better way spending the 3 hours I had than attacking “DIEST – de andere kant” GC1FQG8, which is a multi cache. The only spoiler was the weather. Such drizzle always makes me very wet and in this case also the stage description and the paper where I needed to do my calculations on. My cheat sheet with all type of conversion code was luckily wrapped in plastic. I needed it a lot this time for the typical alphabet to digit conversions. Read more…
I’m disappointed, very disappointed. I had – in my eyes – a good idea for a cache and I was in the middle of gathering information for the story/background info when I was suddenly aware that it can’t be realised. At least not in the form I intended to be. Since the place is historical and the possible high amount of muggles, a physical cache wasn’t possible. So why not a virtual cache where people must take a picture of themselves with a GPSr in their hand and e-mail an answer on a question about the location. A good example of this is the earth cache I visited, as mentioned in earlier blog. Read more…
Today I tackled the ‘De Demer cache’ GCJ6JG again. This cache is located in a city (nearby) called Diest, also known as the Orange city because of his historic connection with the House of Orange-Nassau. Read more…
Unsettled weather was again the theme of the day. Despite this, we wanted to pick up our first geocache: Kesselseberg dagzoom GCZJNC. It’s remarkable to find such a geological wonder so nearby home. Read more…
Day 2 of my stay at Landal, Reuver, Netherlands. It seems that nobody wants to do a geocache hunt today. So I decided to discover two mystery caches by King Egdar: Happy Birthday Mr. Escher GCY82K and De Digitale Code GCXH56. I prepared these two caches earlier. I was alwasy fascinated by Escher’s art and I found the solution rahter smoothly. De Digitale Code was something else. Despite I solved the first part, I couldn’t ficure out what to do with it. A hint from Edgar has put me on the track again. Read more…
