Today is my birthday. My wife wanted to celebrate this with X-mas shopping. I didn’t find the most exciting day I could imagine on my birthday so I went for a caching day instead. After being a roadie for my son, who was giving a concert on his (music) keyboard for his classmates on the last day school of the year, I headed to my first cache. I was really near the parking place of my first cache, I need to stop for a post van, blocking the narrow street. It was a peaceful and nice day, I didn’t hoot and waited patiently until he departed. Then suddenly, the van moved speedily backwards. Bang, on my car. I didn’t have the time to hoot anymore. Result, nearly 2 months after my previous accident the front of my car is damaged again
. Caching seems to be a dangerous sport. After a delay of 45 minutes I could tackle my first cache of the day. Read more…
There are a certain type of cache where you know were you should be and don’t know how to get there. A perfect example is wie, hoe, wat…? GCVZ84 in the ancient gates of military ramparts. When you look at the log, you see that many people has found adventurous ways to find the access to the place. I’m not so adventurous and I wanted to take a alternative path I accidentally found. I happened to be rather slippery too and a small misstep would let me end in the water. Luckily it didn’t happen and I ended up at the large gate whereas others usually end up at the other side of the rampart. So far so good, but when I opened the gate, it was rather dark, a lot of waste (how does it come here) and even graffiti. Real spooky. So I took my wind up LED torch -I try to be as environmental friendly as possible – and started to search. This ended up in a disaster. This type of torches are completely useless in such an environment. Since I’m not a shining example (sorry for the pun) of bravery, I gave up rather quickly. Read more…
Sinterklaas (see also earlier blog) has been visiting both our place and the grand parent’s (my in-laws) home. That’s a busy WE for the kids. We went yesterday to granny and grandfather yesterday and I picked up WIP cache 2: Klaverblad Lummen GC1J8D1, a work in progress cache. As such it isn’t a difficult one – I stopped the car coincidentally within 5 meters of the cache – but it’s certainly interesting for its value. Each logger takes a picture of the long term infrastructure works in progress and at the end one gets a nice overview. Read more…
I must admit I didn’t hear about the term ‘muggle’ before I started geocaching. I’m not into Harry Potter and similar stories. Some people don’t like the term and like to refer to a non geoaching person. It doesn’t sound that good, but I don’t mind using both terms. It’s the same thing with the term stash. Read more…
Today I tackled the ‘De Demer cache’ GCJ6JG again. This cache is located in a city (nearby) called Diest, also known as the Orange city because of his historic connection with the House of Orange-Nassau. Read more…
I decided that I needed a moral boost after the problems I encountered with the Poezie cache. Therefore I listed 5 possible traditional caches I could do after I dropped my son at the scouts. The advantage of ‘traditionals’ is off course is that you only need to drive/go to the pre-set coordinates and thus no mistakes from my side before one can search Read more…
Today, an ex-colleague and I are going to a show by Nigel Williams, a Anglo-Belgian standup comedian. I asked Luc if he wasn’t interested in doing a cache in the neighbourhood and he agreed. I had choosen 2 caches and we choose De wereld van Jonas GCV8T1 to start with. Despite being nearly half october the weather was summer like and it showed. A lot of people were walking in this provincial domain, which is as such a difficulty when you are looking for something that ‘outsiders’ may not know about. The tags were easy to find and we had quickly figured out the end coordinates. Read more…
I didn’t lose heart and decide to do a children cache with the whole family. HBE: De Geelrode Indianen (Kindercache) GC19RGG seems to be perfect for this purpose. The concept is rather cool. This ‘play wood’ has indian as theme full of totems and wigwams. Some of them had a tag. This time I had a torch with me and which turned out to be very useful. After finding all the necesarry tags, the coordinates showed me a place I didn’t expect. I assumed that a very large totem would be the obvious place. Read more…
