Showing the way

There are a certain type of cache where you know were you should be and don’t know how to get there. A perfect example is wie, hoe, wat…? GCVZ84 in the ancient gates of military ramparts. When you look at the log, you see that many people has found adventurous ways to find the access to the place. I’m not so adventurous and I wanted to take a alternative path I accidentally found. I happened to be rather slippery too and a small misstep would let me end in the water. Luckily it didn’t happen and I ended up at the large gate whereas others usually end up at the other side of the rampart. So far so good, but when I opened the gate, it was rather dark, a lot of waste (how does it come here) and even graffiti. Real spooky. So I took my wind up LED torch -I try to be as environmental friendly as possible – and started to search. This ended up in a disaster. This type of torches are completely useless in such an environment. Since I’m not a shining example (sorry for the pun) of bravery, I gave up rather quickly.Today my wife and 2 kids wanted to see Madgacar 2 – my son had still left a couple of cinema tickets (valid till the end of the year) he got for his birthday – and I decided to second attempt to discover the stash, this time with a decent torch. The path was frozen so I was a bit more easy to reach the stash today and I didn’t have any troubles finding the stash this day. I left the spooky environment as soon as possible.

I had planned a couple of pick ups in the way home and the first one was Hij Die Alles Ziet GC12JZN. This is a typical cache at a location that you know by driving by but one never would expect you’d see it closely if you didn’t need to be there. Today I’ve seem Him very close indeed.

This statue is on the top of a hill, but again you need to find a way to reach it. I found it and whilst walking, I even thought I was in the mountain area (Ardennes) of Belgium with the slanted environment, reindeer and even a bird of prey. Nice walk indeed. I saw that a known person (Wodanza)  logged this stash earlier today.

Next cache was Rondje Scherp-Zichem 4: De E314 GC1AXZ0, a cache near a bridge. A rash decision let me conclude that I didn’t need to look at the map since I know the environment a bit. When I arrived at the bridge, the arrow of the GPSr still pointed to a destination 2.5 km further. So I jumped back in the car and followed the arrow. I don’t like driving like this for security reasons, but I ended up at the correct bridge this time. It seems that the same Wodanza logged the same cache today too. Probably he create a similar route as me.

I would have found it out with the next (and final for the day) cache, if I didn’t forget to send the coordinates to the GPSr. It’s on my to do list anyway.

Not a shining example… That’s funny. Sounds like a very difficult cache to find.

I guess, it’s a FG (First Groupie) instead of FTF ;-)
