Shades
I was a bit jealous on the statistics containing maps (like France) having shades dependable on the number of finds within a county.
I’ve already mentioned the project where Merel is busy entering all cities and towns of Belgium into GSAK as goal to have the statistics with shaded colours on a town level. So I thought it would be time that we have some shading on a county level too. When I read the specs, I wasn’t sure what to do though. After some clarification it isn’t that difficult. One needs to determine the x,y coordinate of a point within a province on the Belgian map used for the statistics. Then one needs to add this info in the FindStatGenMapBelgium.dat file. Be aware that this file looks different whether one wants to work on a country or a county level. With the help of lignumaqua in the GSAK forums I was able to show this map as seen on my stats page:
The code for achieving this looks like this (and can be downloaded):
#Belgium # County Map definition file for FindStatGen3 # V0.1 27-11-09 # $Country ="Belgium" $CountryLocalName = "België/Belgique" # State name if relevant. # If this is a county map of an entire country then enter "%" here$StateChosen = "%" $StateAbbreviation = "BE" $MapName = "belgium_state" # Name of the map image on server # Shading bands $limit1 = "1" $limit2 = "9" $limit3 = "24" $limit4 = "49" $limit5 = "74" $limit6 = "99" $limit7 = "149" $limit8 = "199" $limit9 = "249" # Shading colors $color1 = "#FFEEEE" $color2 = "" $color3 = "" $color4 = "" $color5 = "" $color6 = "" $color7 = "" $color8 = "" $color9 = "" $color10 = "#FF0000" $MapCol1 = "#202020" # Optional color value for sea map text $MapCol2 = "#202020" # Optional color value for normal map text $MapCol3 = "FF8800" # Optional color for found regions $MapCol4 = "#34669C" # Background color $RegionName = "Provinc(i)e" $RegionNamePlural = "Provinc(i)es" # Which GSAK field should the macro look in for the data? #(Defaults to 'County' if not present). # Set to 'state' if you want to produce a shaded map of a whole country. # DeLorme maps use "user4" by default $MapDataSource = "state" # County data # County name;x fill coordinate;y fill coordinate VarName=$CountiesSQlFile West-Vlaanderen;49;70 Oost-Vlaanderen;120;71 Antwerpen;201;39 Limburg;273;72 Limburg;311;114 Vlaams-Brabant;200;89 Brussels;175;97 Brabant wallon;192;123 Hainaut;126;146 Hainaut;34;112 Namur;222;174 Luxembourg;275;230 Liège;293;138 # End of file ############################################################################

Wow! You did a great job. Someone else in New Zealand created one for us to use when I wanted to display this information as I don’t have those kind of computer skills. I am very impressed that you have been able to do it for your country.

Can you help to get the non-shaded Belgium map. The one with the provence flags? There is no link in the gkap map page to this particular map although I do find it at people’s GC profile.
Thanks in advance!

I’m not aware of the existence of a non shaded map with provinces, so I’m afraid I can’t help you with that. I would suggest that you post your request on the GSAK forum.
