Search the search
Meeting other geocachers is always pleasant, certainly when they’ve more experience and one can learn from them. One of these people is weedboer I’ve met at the WW6 event I’ve mentioned in an earlier blog.
During the night caching part of the event he showed the torch he was using: a Fenix L2D Cree Q5 Premium LED. I didn’t have a good experience with using LED torches in the past, but I have to revise my opinion on that when I saw how this torch was performing. This kind of LEDs aren’t the same as the LEDs used in this wind-up torch. This Fenix only uses one LED, but the electronics behind it make it a very powerful device. That’s why I bought myself the same torch.
Weedboer imparted me some other things too. In another life, I used to blog on other sites too. One of the themes covered where search plugins for Firefox and MIE 7, preferable in the Open Search format. I was delighted to see search plugins on weedboer’s blog. He made Firefox plugins in order to search on the gc.com site. He made plugins for seeking:
- by name
- by waypoint
- trackables
- a profile of a geocacher
- mail another geocacher
- by city name (on map)
- by city name (in a list)
Plugins 1, 2, 6 and 7 are my all time favourites. He also made a MIE versions. More details can be found at this blog post. It’s in Dutch, but you can translate it with the well known translation tools.
Btw. I took the liberty to add my own plugin: searching caches by owner. You download it over here.
