Scaredy-cat
Sometimes the anxiety takes over the rational and one needs to recede from things.
This happened with the cache we’ve done last WE: Cave Cache Kanne by Joshabets (GC1TPD8). The interest was awakened by video clips like this:

Despite my (selective) fear of heights, I’ve put this one on my to do list and found Freggie and ThierryP willing to join me. This was done accordingly last Sunday. So we drove – all in one car of course – to the crime scene and just when we were close to it, Freggie stopped. ‘There is a cache nearby’, he said. Thus we logged F.E.E. Het ‘sterkste’ fort ter wereld. by Team GUUST (GC1JGXA), a cache at a historical interesting location. During our journey, we logged some other unplanned caches too:
- De Grootberg by Kogamiyata (GC1XZPP)
- Lost Valley of Caestert by Captain Cook and Aquaria (GCHRA4)
- Remember by Kogamiyata (GC1TP6G)
and of course the planned caches Saint-Pierre by Prusik (GCD161) and Cut here! (Caestert 3) by Captain Cook (GCJ216) which were on the track of Cave Cache Kanne and the Earthcache Typelocatie Maastrichtien by lynxhouse (GC1YH32).
One would almost forget that the main focus was on Cave Cache Kanne. I don’t know what it is, but when we are in group, we become chatterboxes and don’t pay attention to the cache itself. So it happened that we were going into a road for > 5 minutes before I observed that it was the wrong way. It seemed to be that this would be the only incident that day, since everything went very smoothly (and had already logged several caches). That was until we crossed over the canal (via a bridge of course). We couldn’t find a tag, but continued the journey based on the description of the road towards the next waypoint. A spoiler photo confirmed our assumption. It was also clear that the dreaded moment was coming near since we were climbing higher and higher and could enjoy the view, as long as the abyss didn’t open up. But what goes up, must go down too. This was a piece of cake for Freggie, who used to be a climber. So we couldn’t stay behind and follow him. The first part of the descent went better than I expected, although I have to admit that I went down bottom wise. When that wasn’t possible anymore, I was frozen with fear and – since I didn’t want to go down anymore – I climbed the way up and decided to take a detour in order to arrive at the same point Freggie was half an hour before. The rest of the journey was back to normal and we could log the cache in the early afternoon.

cool cache spot! I don’t think I would have been able to do it. My fear wouldn’t be going down so much as getting back up
