Pick the fruit

As mentioned in my previous blog, I’ve all the gear to do paperless caching. So I thought today was perfect for a try-out and tackled some caches this afternoon:

  • De Heer van Rode GC11WD4 at the surroundings of the castle of Horst. I’ve been here last Sunday too, but some hiking club had some route in the neighbourhood of the cache and it was thus impossible to get the cache and log it without the attention of some hundred muggles. Today there wasn’t anybody, and thus retrieved it smoothly after I found the hiding place.
  • I’ve read a lot about the “Foute vrucht of…foute boom ? #1″ GC157Z4 cache. The purpose of this cache is to find the fruit that doesn’t fit the tree it’s located on or vice versa if you like. It’s certainly one of these cache you can search long for. It took me a while before I found it, but suddenly something catched my eye that didn’t look normal. And yes indeed, that was the cache. Beautiful manufactured but even more beautiful hidden.
  • Another one from the same owners is “Zie ze vliegen #1″ GC10P2P. A week ago, I found another in that same series, so I knew what to expect.  Coincidently or not, there was also “fake” cache which took some attention. I found the real cache rather smoothly. As said before, the authors must put a lot of time in getting this one hidden.
  • I closed the day with a very smooth discovery of “Marcinelle 8 augustus 1956 – Betekom” GC159QX. At first sight, the  monument seems to be odd since it remembers the 50th ‘anniversary’ of the mine disaster of August 8th, 1956. One should expect such a monument at Marcinelle itself, but I found out via internet that 33 of the 262 victims originated of the region of Betekom. Yet learned something new thanks to a cache. Despite the traffic, I could log it muggle free.
