Cache nicked?

This morning I continued the new tradition of picking up a cache of going to work, despite the fact that I didn’t need to bring my son to judo training camp.

But the temptation was there. This new “De Drei Toemme” GC1PP3Y was published last Wednesday and had a FTF by il imperiestro and his retinue rather quickly. Since then, nobody logged it anymore, so I though it was nice to climb the tumulus before heading work, even if it was a (small) detour.

I had to renew my latest cache “Allemaal beestjes” GC1NM5W since the previous container wasn’t on its place anymore. I don’t know how that happened, certainly when there isn’t much muggle danger where I placed it. Just when I placed the new container and were ready to head home again, my son found the old container on the ground a few meters uphill. Luckily, it was intact and we could place it back where it belongs. It hurts though, since I’ve put a lot of effort (and money) in constructing both containers. If it steals off or something els happens with it again, I have to archive it. It’ll be by second disappointment within this game, called geocaching.

My first resentment is called Travel Bugs. I started launching TBs with much enthusiasm,  but that’s dampened a lot now. When I encounter a TB, I take care that it moves as quick and as far as possible within my possibilities at that moment. Apparently I seem to expect the impracticability and this would happen with my TBs. I see that they get dropped in barely visited caches or doesn’t get picked up at all, despite the convenient size. That makes competing in a TB race rather difficult. I’m surely not going to spend any money on that anymore.

That doesn’t count for my geocaching adventures though. After > 6 months and nearly 200 finds, I still enjoy it very much. A pity that the rest of the family doesn’t share my addiction.

It’s unfortunate that people aren’t as careful about logging travel bugs as they are with logging caches. I also try to get things out quickly, but sometimes it may take a week or two before I get out to place an item (unless I have a goal in mind). It is quite frustrating to see things go missing. I had one of my early travel bugs get a lot of miles (over 15,000) only to be picked up by a BRAND NEW cacher (their first find) and he thought it was for keeps. His son has it and I can’t get a hold of him at all. Thankfully, I have the copy to release.

Out of all of my TB’s, a handful have gone missing or picked up and not released again. It’s unfortunate. I try to handle as many TB’s/coins as possible because I know how frustrating it is. Thankfully, the cost of TB’s is cheaper than many coins, and the risk of theft is one reason I only released one coin (it was stolen within 2 weeks).

My fingers are crossed that your race TB is just delayed. I’m keeping my eye on it and the person who has it.
