Buggered up?
Is this it? Have I enough of it and should I quit? Do I need to look for other things to spend my money (more wisely)?
I’m talking about travel bugs. I don’t seem to have a lot of luck with this aspect of geocaching. I have/had 5 of them. Many of them seem to end in caches which aren’t visited that much. An extreme example is the SDN Top contributor bug where I needed to solve a mystery in order to free it myself after sitting there for nearly a year. Another bug gets vandalised, but luckily there are kind-hearted people giving the bug an identity again. But then they end up with people holding the bug for a couple of months. Another bug vanishes after one stops since the cache gets muggled.
Speaking of, my TB & GC Hotel Afrit 24 got muggled too. The bag that needed to protect the logbook was the only thing left at the location. I don’t know what happened since it was hidden at a place where non GC people wouldn’t come. My sincere apologies for the TB and GC owners. I did my best in maintaining the cache regularly and did supply it with new GCs and TBs.
OK, if TBs aren’t my thing if need to part with them. So why not buy a backpack with a TB on it? It’s always nearby and people can only discover it. But when I put it on my back the other day, one of the straps loosened. I barely used it nor did overload it. Despite the price tag, it is poor quality. I sewed it together and hope that it’ll fit better now, but I doubt if I’ll take it along on longer trips.
As with many things, things are probably seldom what they seem and one jumps to conclusions not (fully) reflecting reality. The truth is out there … and it hurts (for the moment), but we’ll see what the future brings.

maybe you should try a cap…
always on your head, never to mutch weight….
offcourse you can get it broken but well…

That was indeed on of the things I’ve considered. The problem with that is that I’ve a rather large head and I usually have problems finding caps, etc which fit properly.

TBs should be treated like the trade items you fill up the caches you place: you put them out there to give others some fun, and take some enjoyment out of the logs they generate.
My rate of lost TBs is greater than the rate of lost/muggled caches. That’s just part of the game.
