I’m still on holiday and hopefully I’ve found some caches whilst you’re reading this. Meanwhile I thought I wanted to share something about the equipment I bring along during my geocaching trips.
Most of you might already now what I use, but since the info is spread along different blogs, I thought a small recap would be nice:
- a Nordic walking stick that also serves as pricker. I have to admit that I only use it for large distances since the stick becomes a nuisance if one doesn’t use it.
- A large – maybe a bit too large -bum bag which holds a load of stuff:
- refillable pencils. I prefer to work with them since they are more weather proof. The only trouble is that the tip breaks of easily and they don’t write easily on wet log books. Therfore I have also..
- biro a.k.a. ball pens
- a little (paper) notebook
- swag, although that I have to conclude that the quality of the swag in most of the caches is rather poor and I don’t swap that often anymore when the kids don’t join me.
- a cheat sheet with the typical alphabet translations and others
- sometimes a compass which I’m not good reading it properly
- an iPaq 214 with Geoscout installed on it
- a powerfull torch
- spare batterries. I’m rather happy about these GP Recyko batteries. These rechargeable combine the benefits of Alkaline and rechargeable batteries. The most important benefit is that they retain their power and don’t loose power already when they get out of the charger
- off course a GPSr in casu a Garmin GPSmap 60cx
- good hiker socks preventing blisters, certainly for long journeys
- walking shoes. I have a pair for the winter and a less warm pair for the summer
- enough food and drink for long journeys, but I would even recommend the latter anyway. I usually forget to bring it a long.
- a car GPS unit
- preferable a good mood and attentiveness for finding much caches
Having said this, I hope to come back and report you an extensive list of found after my holiday. Much depends on the rest of the family too
