The Search Jaunt

Yesterday, I found cache #500 and still 5025 to go in Belgium

I intended to reach that number last week, but Freggie came with a better idea. So I decided to pick out some special caches by some friends of mine. The first six is the new series by Vuurvos. Vuurvos understands the art of putting some craftsmanship in each of his caches. I have done several of his caches in the past and the expectations were high and they were again completely fulfilled. And it shows. The caches are barely 1 month old and have over 50 finds. I guess it’s the unique combination of a multi with all separate caches – which is good for the stats – which aren’t too difficult to find. That is, as long as the GPSr isn’t pointing to the wrong direction all the time like mine did. I’m very tempted to buy the newly to be launched Oregon 450 and any excuse is good to justify this
But I did manage to find the cache on my own and when I was at the point of admiring the final cache and I was wondering how Vuurvos managed to achieve this, I heard a bleep. It was the GPSr of spockske accompanied with nummer 27. We had a nice chat on the way back to the car.

In the car I was still thinking about the innovative cache and the idea I had once to work around the same theme, which I abandoned because another cache had a similar theme – without the crafty container though – and I thought it would be unfeasible to make anyway. Vuurvos proved I was wrong. Not to worry too much though. I found some inspiration to work on a new container myself and hopefully I can achieve it with the limited technical knowledge I’m blessed with.

My journey didn’t end though. I had still two other caches on my to do list. The first one was a disaster since the GPSr didn’t want to cooperate.  I didn’t have that bad luck with the second one; a cache by my geocaching friend weedboer. His cache is officially my 500th find.

By the way, an article on how Firefox and its addons can be helpful for geocaching has been published. GeocacherQ asked me the other day if I couldn’t concentrate all my blog scribbles into one article. It’s in Dutch, but you can use one of these online translators. The result is sometimes hilarious, but good enough to get the point.
