5 star cache

I found yesterday my first 5 * cache. It was far from easy though.

The OO-CACH GCJ2Q3 by hh1 is the cache which I’ve been spending the most time so far. It isn’t easy to determine where the air defence missile hits the plane, certainly if you lack the mathematical baggage. I wasn’t good in mathematics at all. In fact, at school teachers said I wouldn’t be any good in computer science with that level of maths. But I’m > 20 years into computer development now and I still can manage.

Anyway, after searching for ages – I even bought a ‘Trigonometry for Dummies’ book in the hope that it would be helpful – I managed to have some decent coordinates as result. Even Evince gave me a green light. So I headed last Friday during lunch time to the crime scene and I found one of the marks as described. So I though I would discover the cache soon. Nothing like that though and I didn’t find it. I guess it was due to the time pressure.

I did a second attempt  yesterday and I found a second mark, which would make things more easy. And it did. I guess I only needed 15-20 mins in total to find it this time. When I looked at the hiding place, I was wondering why I didn’t find it the first time. I even think that I’ve been looking at the spot, but I’m not sure since in a wood a lot of things look the same. A perfect example was my way back to my car. After a 5 min walk, I suddenly realised that the scenery didn’t look the same as on my way to the cache. I guess I was a bit disoriented or blind by euphoria caused by my find. Luckily I could check with my topo maps on my GPSr in order to find the correct way to my car.

It’s a big relief that I could find this when, certainly since it’ll be archived soon. But it’s not done yet. The owner has a similar cache with the same level of difficulty hidden no so far from this one. I hope to find this one too, although I’ve also been working on a solution for a long while now.
