I visited yesterday a friend who designs lamps from driftwood, stumps, etc. I made a site somewhat a year ago for her. This site was created in Flash and not well maintainable. So I recreated the site in WordPress in order that she could update the site on her own without being afraid to ask me doing things for me. There are a certain type of cache where you know were you should be and don’t know how to get there. A perfect example is wie,hoe,wat…? GCVZ84 in the ancient gates of military ramparts. When you look at the log, you see that many people has found adventurous ways to find the access to the place. I’m not so adventurous and I wanted to take a alternative path I accidentally found. I happened to be rather slippery too and a small misstep would let me end in the water. Luckily it didn’t happen and I ended up at the large gate whereas others usually end up at the other side of the rampart. So far so good, but when I opened the gate, it was rather dark, a lot of waste (how does it come here) and even graffiti. Real spooky. So I took my wind up LED torch -I try to be as environmental friendly as possible – and started to search. This ended up in a disaster. This type of torches are completely useless in such an environment. Since I’m not a shining example (sorry for the pun) of bravery, I gave up rather quickly. Read more…
It’s Friday, thus nearly a geocaching WE. In order to get in the mood, I try to do discover a geocache near work during lunch time. Today, I searched Trainspotting 5 : L139 in Oud-Heverlee GC1AJXP, a cache near a railway mostly used for goods/freight train traffic. When those trains roar by at work, one can’t say anything understandable anymore. Anyway, after a steady walk, I discovered the stash rather easily, based on the additional hint. For some odd reason the last 20 meters had a lot of deviation (due to the trees?). I had the same problem last Wednesday. After I got rid of my braces at the orthodontist late in the evening, I didn’t want to go home immediately and wanted to do a quick cache nearby. But it took at least 10 minutes before I got any signal on my GPSr and the projection I did, pointed to a place that certainly wasn’t correct. After a couple of tries, I gave up. Sinterklaas (see also earlier blog) has been visiting both our place and the grand parent’s (my in-laws) home. That’s a busy WE for the kids. We went yesterday to granny and grandfather yesterday and I picked up WIP cache 2: Klaverblad Lummen GC1J8D1, a work in progress cache. As such it isn’t a difficult one – I stopped the car coincidentally within 5 meters of the cache – but it’s certainly interesting for its value. Each logger takes a picture of the long term infrastructure works in progress and at the end one gets a nice overview. Read more…

It’s official, I’ve published my first own cache: TB & GC Motel Afrit 24 GC1JK5Q. It’s a small TB/GC Hotel (therefore motel) at an exit of a highway.
